Building Brains - A guide to supporting your child's development through play
Ali Bell - PLAY Therapist

This guide is designed to help you understand the typical growth of your child's brain, and how that impacts their social development. It also suggests play activities you can try at home to help you build your child's beautiful brain. Different children develop at different rates, so the ages listed are only a guide. We encourage you to think about your own child and the skills they are currently showing to figure out where in their growth they are - Enjoy!

Social Stories

Social stories are a way to prepare your child for social or new situations. They have been shown to reduce anxiety about transitions and support children to learn what behaviours are expected of them and others. From time to time when we feel many of our families would benefit you will find them here to use at your leisure, these have been either created by us or credited and shared from another awesome organisation.

Navigating Christmas

Meet Ella:

"Decorations may look nice to others but to me they are just disturbing my safe environment."

"I much prefer to stay in an environment I am familiar with an comfortable in, such as my home, and have others come to me. If I do go to someone else’s house, it’s really important that you listen to me when I say I need to take a break or leave. "

I would like to introduce you to Ella. Ella is intelligent, brave and resilient and has spent the past few years learning to embrace their true self. Ella is now 19 and teaches me more than I can teach them! Ella has provided insight into ideas on how to help an autistic person navigate the holiday season and whilst this is what they need agreed to sharing in the hope it may help others or those younger than they are and cannot yet put it into words. Thanks Ella! A must read here.
